Weight conversion guide
The package did not get heavier. You just changed from kilos to pounds.
You buy something that weighs 10 kg and another page shows 22.05 lb. It looks heavier, but of course nothing changed inside the box. You are simply seeing the same amount in another unit. Move between milligrams, grams, kilograms, metric tonnes, ounces, pounds and stones without doing the math by hand.
From milligrams to tonnes, in powers of a thousand
The metric system has a useful advantage: its important steps go by thousands. 1,000 milligrams make 1 gram, 1,000 grams make 1 kilogram and 1,000 kilograms make 1 metric tonne.
Which one should you use? It depends on what is in front of you. Milligrams are useful for tiny quantities; grams and kilograms appear constantly in food, products and everyday objects. When you are talking about loads, materials or genuinely heavy things, it is probably time to use tonnes.
On the other side: ounces, pounds and stones
The relationship is not as neat as multiplying by 1,000 here. One pound has exactly 16 ounces and equals 0.45359237 kilograms. Ounces and pounds appear often in food, packages and everyday measurements in the United States.
Then there is the stone, which can seem strange if you have never used it. It is mostly used in the United Kingdom for body weight. One stone is 14 pounds, or about 6.35 kg. So when someone says they weigh 11 stones, they are not saying they weigh eleven rocks.

Although we all say “convert weight,” kilograms, grams, pounds and the other units in this tool are units of mass. In physics, weight and mass are not exactly the same. For a recipe, a package, a suitcase or checking your body weight, this is probably the conversion you came looking for.

Weight conversion questions
Can I convert a value of zero?
Yes. Zero is still zero in milligrams, grams, kilos, pounds and every other unit in the tool. Negative values are not accepted.
What is the difference between a stone and a pound?
A stone is much larger: it equals exactly 14 pounds. It is mainly used in the United Kingdom for body weight. If you have never seen this unit, you are not the only one.
Does one tonne equal 1,000 kilograms?
A metric tonne does: exactly 1,000 kg. We say metric because other units called tons exist and they do not all weigh the same. Apparently one tonne could not simply be one tonne.
Can I use decimal commas or paste grouped digits?
Yes. You can enter 1.5 or 1,5 and we understand the same value. We also accept digits grouped with spaces, such as 23 000 000 mg. You do not have to clean the number before pasting it.
How many pounds are in 1 kg?
One kilogram equals exactly 2.20462 pounds. Enter 1 kg to also see grams, ounces, stone and tonnes.
What is 70 kg in pounds?
